Q.        How long have you been surfing?

 

A.        34 years

 

Q.        What has been the biggest change

            since you started (in surfing)?

 

A.        Three fins – Thrusters – flexible winter

            wetsuits

 

Q.        Where did you cut your teeth in the

            surf?

 

A.         The mid, Middleton, Waits, Yorkes, Eyre  Peninsula and Mermaid Beach QLD

 

Q.        Who is the one surfer that you most modelled your surfing off or admire?

 

A.        Me – but really no- one in particular

 

Q.        Most memorable surf in your life?

 

A.        Many – classic and uncrowded waits,mount greenleigh, not to mention solid 6ft

            granites after watching a tom carrol DVD.

 

Q.        What boards have you ridden or what style of board (twinny/ 4 fin/ thruster)?

 

A.        All and sundry – stand up and kneelo

 

Q.        Where do you see kneeboarding going?

 

A.        Dunno

 

Q.        Why did you start kneeboarding?

 

A.        Cause I never followed the crowd, and read articles on peter Crawford and Peter

            Berry.  Whoa – thats ancient history

 

Q.        How do you handle the flack from other surfers being a kneelo?

 

A.        Tell them to knaff off

 

Q.        What injuries have you received?

 

A.        Corked thigh, stiches

 

Q.        Have you ever thought you were gunna die?

 

A.        Caught in waits horror rip when only 18.   Had to jump of board half way through a

            bottom turn at 8ft bullies – right in the bowl – the guy who dropped in on me

            fell off in front of me.  Hammered underwater until just before the shore

            break.

 

Q.        Has your family or partner been cool with your surfing? Have you separated

            from a partner because of your surfing?

 

A.        An ex once said – if you go to streaky without me don’t bother to come home”

            I reiterate – an ex.  Julie bought me a board for an engagement  present and let me

            take the board to Lord Howe Island when we got married.  Need I say more.

 

Q.        Do you have a signature move?

 

A.        For stand up – back hand pigdog rail grab – sliding down the face sideways and

            making it.

            For kneelo – floater with the lip on take off – honest I made it

 

Q.        Do you want to thank your sponsors?

Q.        What was the first car you ever went surfing in?

 

A.        Cant remember – my first surf car was an  Holden HR ute.   It went everywhere –

            streaky, bells (great ocean road), sunshine coast, yorkes etc.

 

Q.        If you had a choice would you

            A.      Go surfing and knock back a sess with your missus?

            B.      Knock back a surf with ya mates and keep ya missus happy?

 

A.        No issue

 

Q.        Describe your perfect surf trip

 

A.        Any place going off without hordes – just with my mates

 

Q.        What music do you listen to when you want to motivate yourself for a surf?

 

A.        Joe Satriani has been a past favourite

 

Q.        Is there a certain smell or sound that reminds you of the surf?

 

A.        It's green and it's illegal

 

Q.        Have you ever snaked or dropped in on a stand up and said to yourself

           “that felt good”? and who was it?

 

A.        Kneelo - some old bugger on a mal in the bay including cutting back towards him

            – he kept on snaking me

           Stand up – some guy dropped in on me at bullies (see earlier   description). So I

           blatantly dropped in on him and turned and gave him the victory sign. I think he ate it.
