Latest Information

The Club's AGM was held on Saturday 20th January, 2018 with a fair turn-out of members.

The main business of the AGM was to elect a new Committee to guide us through 2018.  Paul Francis was re-elected at President, Patrick Langlands was elected as Vice President, Dave Butcher as Secretary and Geoff Ferguson re-elected as Treasurer.  A big thank you to these four for being prepared to take on these tasks, especially Paul and Geoff for continuing in their respective rolls.  Thank you also to the out-going committee who did a great job and made 2017 a success

Club Fees were discussed and it was agreed at the AGM that normal membership only, would increase by $5.00 to $30.00 and Junior/Country membership will stay at their current level of $15.00.  The slight increase was necessitated with increases in costs associated with web pages, calendars, etc.  Membership is still exceptionally low when compared to other similar sporting groups.  All fees are due by the 31 March, 2018 and a late payment fee has been introduced of $5.00, if you pay after this date.  Fees can be paid electronically (on-line) to the Southern Kneeboard Association bank account (Beyond Bank) BSB 805-022  A/c 02255120.  If you pay on-line please ensure that add your name and state membership in the description.

Apart from the normal Monthly Club Meets, it was agreed at the AGM that there will be three trips for the year.  These trips are to the South East in April (20-22), to Kangaroo Island in July (27-29) and Yorke Peninsula in November (9-11).  The Mid Year Dinner will be held on 29 June and the Christmas BBQ on the 15 December (please note a $10.00 contribution for meat and soft drinks has been asked for those attending the Christmas BBQ to help minimise costs to the club and keep our overall expenditure down).  It's a busy Calendar for 2018, which has been added to this website as a pdf file for you to print off and stick to your fridge so you don't miss a thing. (link above or click here).

It looks like we are in for another good year for members of the club.  Lets hope the surf cooperates and we get waves on all our trips and the majority of our club meets.  If you are not a member and wish to join, feel free to contact Club President Paul Francis on 0403 709 035 for more details or just fill out the membership form (link above or click here) and join in the fun.  The club would certainly welcome back past members that may have returned to South Australia or had other commitments in past years and were unable to join.  It would be fantastic to see a large number of Kneelo's in the water having a great time at club events.  Hope to see you at one of these in the near future.

The Club is looking at updating it's T-shirts, Hoodies, Beanies, etc., but would like to have a new logo to put on these.  To encourage members to submit logo ideas, the Committee has decided to run a little competition  where the winner will receive at T-shirt with the new logo on it.  So members (you must be a paid up member) get your artistic skills to work and start working on some designs, you are not limited to one.  Send these to the Club President, Paul at by the 28 February 2018.    All entries will be displayed on this web site for member voting (again you must be financial to vote) and the winner will be announced on this web-page.

Once the new logo is selected it is proposed that an online site such as Red Bubble will be used to produce any item of clothing you like with our new logo on it.  The club aims to make about $5.00 on each item to help support the club.  So get cracking and start drawing!!

The Southern Kneeboard Association (SKA) Committee, in it's wisdom awarded Phil Arthur (better known as Pinebox amongst it's membership), as its first life member.

Phil, one of the original founding members of the club and its first and longest serving President, was instrumental in establishing the Southern Kneeboard Association.  He has been one of the driving forces behind SKA since its inception in 2001 and has made it one of the more successful kneeboard surfing clubs in Australia boasting an active surfing membership of over 20 members.   In 2009, with the club's support, Pinebox started the first South Australian professional kneeboard surfing event, namely the Encounter Coast Kneeboard Classic.  This event has been held six times since its inception and has helped promote kneeboard surfing in South Australia.  Pinebox has been the only South Australian to win this event.

For the past three years Pinebox has been the Vice-President of Kneeboard Surfing Australia and the South Australian representative on that committee.

He has been a mentor for many SA Kneelos in helping them develop their kneeboarding skills and providing advice for those wishing to compete on a national level.  As a past State Champion (on many occasions) and highly ranked national and international competitor his advice is invaluable.

Phil always promoted Kneeboard Surfing in South Australia and is a great ambassador for the sport in South Australia and nationally.  The life membership is well deserved.  Congratulations Pinebox from all of us here at SKA.

Unfortunately for us, Phil is returning to his birth state Tasmania, next month and will be missed by all in the club.  I am sure he will keep in touch with his many friends here in S.A.  All the best to Phil and Lynne in Tasmania. Our loss is the Apple Isle Kneeboarder's gain.

Club Events

The Southern Kneeboard Association (SKA) holds a number of events annually.  The main events are Club Meets and Club Trips.  Club Meets are held monthly at a local surf spot such as Middleton, Cliffs, Waitpinga, Parsons or any where on the Mid Coast.  Club Trips are held three (sometimes four) times annually and include trips to Kangaroo Island, Yorke Peninsula and the South East of the State.

Visitors are welcome to our locally held club meets but either e-mail or phone the Club President first. (Contact details are on the About Us page). For write ups on club meets and trips go to club meet and club trip pages (links above).

SKA members participate in a number of State and National kneeboard surfing competitions.  There are two competitions held in South Australia, namely the SA State Titles and the Encounter Coast Kneeboard Classic (the SA ProAm).  The Encounter Coast Kneeboard Classic (ECKC) held in August of each year, is part of the Australian Circuit and is proving popular with the top interstate kneeboard surfers travelling to SA to compete.  Some of our members also travel interstate to Victoria and NSW to compete on other Australian Circuit events.

Results and reports on all competitions can be found on the SA Tate Titles page, the SA ProAm (ECKC) page and  the Interstate Competitions page (links above).

The Photos page will be a gallery of 50 or so photos of members either free surfing or surfing in competitions.  The photos on this page will continually change and will only be updated with recent photos (link above).
